Inventing the Future is a collaboration between CEDA and key partners. It is a modular approach that allows us to start pulling together support and ideas, and consider a long-term goal of evolving to the establishment of a CEDA affiliated Western Australia Economic Development Research and Policy Hub.
Overview
The predictions for population growth in Australia, and particularly Western Australia, over the next four decades are startling: forecasts include numbers such as 35 million for Australia, and a WA population of at least four million. Western Australia appears poised to experience another period of high demand for natural resources and energy, driven largely by the industrial development of China and India. WA is facing its biggest ever investment wave as major projects gear up to supply this demand.
Where will the people, hospital beds, roads, ports, and schoolrooms come from? How will our local, state, and federal governments deal with increased demands for increased and overlapping expertise and regulation? And how can we learn from previous growth cycles to encourage the development of sustainable cities, rational use of resources, and a broader distribution of the benefits?
CEDA WA's new initiative, '
Inventing the Future: Shaping WA from 2010 to 2050', will provide an ongoing platform for public discourse and policy development in Western Australia and the nation. Join us for the launch of this exciting new program on March 25.
